LANSING, Michigan – The bipartisan board of Michigan’s Democracy Defense Foundationclosely followed the state’s elections Tuesday as voters from Detroit to Keweenaw County took part in a system that should serve as a nationwide model for safe, secure and accurate elections.
The DDP’s Michigan board members – former Govs. Jim Blanchard, a Democrat; John Engler, a Republican; former Lt. Gov. John Cherry, a Democrat; and former U.S. Congressman Mike Bishop, a Republican – released the following statement:
“Once again, Michigan voters turned out in force in early voting and on Election Day to cast their ballots and Michigan’s election system stood up to the test. Overwhelmingly, Michiganders trust the outcomes of elections because our decentralized voting system means they see their friends and neighbors working hard to ensure secure, fair and accurate elections.”
More than 1,500 local clerks in Michigancounties, cities, villages and townships oversee elections. Robust safeguards ensure Michiganelections are secure, transparent and accurate.
A 2025 DDP poll showed that 88% of voters said that they trust their local elections, a jump from the 78% who expressed the same sentiment in a DDP poll the previous year. More than 78% of voters are confident that this year’s elections will be fair and accurate.
