ATLANTA — Today, the Democracy Defense Foundation (DDF) – Georgia, praised the United States Supreme Court’s decision to leave in place an injunction preventing new federal mail-ballot requirements from taking effect during the 2026 midterm elections.
“Peach State voters trust the elections process and any attempt to make last-minute changes to how Georgians vote – or how their votes are processed and tabulated – would undermine confidence at the ballot box.
“We applaud the Supreme Court for recognizing a simple but important principle: Election reforms may be appropriate, but they should not be implemented in the middle of an ongoing election, when some Americans are already casting their ballots.
“Now that this is settled, our focus should be on ensuring that every eligible Georgian understands the process and ultimately exercises the right to vote.”
The Supreme Court denied the federal government’s request to stay a lower-court injunction blocking the new requirements. Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote separately that implementing the rule during the 2026 elections would not give state and local election officials sufficient time to comply.
