Phoenix, AZ—A new poll released today by the Democracy Defense Foundation reveals that although Arizona voters have confidence in certain aspects of local elections, there remain lingering concerns stemming from misinformation about the 2020 election. The poll was conducted July 27-30 by The Tarrance Group and surveyed Arizona voters on prominent issues this election cycle including the Governor and Secretary of State races and Proposition 144, the Voter Identification and Citizenship Voting Requirements Amendment, which is polling at 58% in favor, 42% against, and 1% undecided.
Overall, Arizona voters are more confident in the 2024 election results compared to 2020. Similarly, Arizona voters have more confidence heading into the 2026 General Election.
Yet, Arizona voters are concerned about several threats to election integrity including ballots being cast by illegal immigrants, foreign interference, and federal pressure.
There are 49% of the voters polled who believe that non-citizens and non-Arizona residents have illegally cast votes in AZ elections, while 50% reject this assertion and 1% are unsure. Among those who believe this to be the case, there are 87% who believe that has changed the results of important elections.
Also, 40% believe that election officials have knowingly submitted false vote counts from elections, while 60% of the electorate rejects this assertion, and 1% are unsure. Among those who believe this to be the case, there are 45% who believe that has occurred often, while 54% believe it has occurred sometimes, and only 1% believe it has hardly ever occurred.
Although, there are various concerns among Republicans and Democrats, many of which have been debunked countless times, respondents are confident in many aspects of Arizona’s elections including the mail-in ballot system and early in-person voting.
“The false allegations of the 2020 election are lingering today, six years later,” said Governor Jan Brewer. “Significant damage has been done to the public perception of our election system as we are still combating misinformation and debunking bogus allegations. I am pleased the efforts from many local leaders to share accurate information has increased voter confidence regarding mail-in voting and ballot counting, but we have a long way to go. I applaud the local leaders and election workers that work tirelessly to oversee free and fair elections and defend our system against political opportunists.”
