Phoenix, AZ— Democracy Defense Foundation Arizona board members Governor Jan Brewer, Congressman Matt Salmon, former State Rep. Daniel Hernandez and Yuma County Supervisor Jonathan Lines issued the following statement urging candidates and campaigns to tone down the inflammatory rhetoric ahead of the 2026 election:
“We are two weeks away from an important midterm election and campaigns on both sides of the aisle are increasing their voter outreach in hopes of success in November. We urge candidates, PACs, and other organizations actively campaigning for or against candidates to tone down the inflammatory rhetoric. Words matter and significantly impact human behavior.
“Just last week, the state’s largest county was falsely accused of voter misconduct and an unknown substance was sent to the Secretary of State’s Office causing the evacuation of the State Capitol Complex. Unfortunately, this is the culmination of many years of misinformation and increased political tension. It is time to lead by example. Our state, and the voters, deserve productive and meaningful political discourse.”
